Mimesis and Popularity

Are mimesis and popularity related? If your desires are similar to the desires of people around you, will you be more popular?

I think the opposite is definitely true. If your desires are different from everyone around you, you will definitely be less popular.

Maybe this is why mimesis is baked into us.
