Trying New Things
I was talking to a friend the other day, just catching up, and I told him that I’d started doing Brazilan Jiu-Jitsu. I told him what I liked about it, my experiences, and then suggested that he give it a try.
“Oh, I’m too old,” he replied.
He’s younger than me.
He didn’t ask how it felt physically or how old anyone else was, he had a preconceived notion of someone who did BJJ and that wasn’t him. Maybe he wouldn’t like it, but I was surprised that was the reason.
I’m much more open to trying things out now than when I was younger. I’ll pretty much try anything now, while when I was younger I was much more concerned over what other people would think.
I’m more likely now to not bullshit myself. I can’t give myself an excuse that doesn’t hold water. Confronting and accepting what I feel makes it easier to not regret anything.
