My theory is that creativity will come if you follow Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose. But since it’s hard to define these abstract concepts, it’s easier to avoid their opposites.
> Doing something 100 times forces you to strip away everything you find painful and you find something interesting inside.
This really resonates with me. When I started my newsletter, I realized I needed to do exactly this. I knew I needed to find a sustainable way to post consistently. On the one hand, it's meant that I don't really have a niche, which makes growing an audience much harder. On the other hand, I could do what I love and post from the heart consistently. It's been so much fun, so rewarding, and the ideas just keep coming.
This whole idea you described is a gem that more creators could take to heart!
The challenges seem silly before you do them, but it's hard to take action. Feel like we need to show the benefits so it's easier to start one of these challenges
“The pursuit of Purpose corrupted my actually accomplishing anything.”
Man, is this ever relatable. I've been stuck for so long trying to figure out what is actually worth doing. This sentence sums up my situation perfectly.
Doing something for 100 times lets you find the joy in the doing, instead of the reward at the end. You won't do something 100 times if you don't find the journey enjoyable - no matter what the destination is.
"I am advocating the view that if you find that what you are doing is ridiculously hard for you, it is the wrong thing for you to be doing. I maintain that you should not have to work significantly harder or faster to succeed today than you had to 50 years ago. A little harder perhaps. Mainly, you just have to drop external frames of reference and trust your internal navigation on a landscape of your own strengths. It may look like superhuman grit to an outsider, but if it feels like that inside to you, you’re doing something wrong."
Fantastic point Bert! That's how I feel about the blunt approaches to "core values" work (here's a list and pick yours..) and how it might be backwards--instead, we can infer our core values by reflecting on our actions, esp in how we serve others.

Just subscribed! I've seen him on Twitter but I haven't dug into his stuff at all

Just in time... I turned 35 last week and decided to experiment more and see what ideas I'm coming up with.
So I decided to write 35 threads for 35 weekdays and see what happens.
I'm starting this challenge on Monday - I'll set up a separate email list to send weekly updates about my progress.
Thanks for further encouraging me to do this!
awesome! how do I sign up? You're doing this on twitter?
Yep, I'm doing it on Twitter. I just created a landing page: https://writersfastlane.com/35at35, where you can sign up for my updates.
Edit: link update
I'm getting a 404
Sorry, I quickly realized it should be ”35 at 35”. I updated the link :) Thanks Chris

But how do you know what your purpose in life is?

You might find this essay interesting from Venkatesh Rao. https://www.ribbonfarm.com/2011/08/19/the-calculus-of-grit/
